Our family hosted Rotary District 3190 Governor elect Badri Prassad Boggaram and his wife Jayashree from Bangalore, India in our home for 4 days. Rotary District 5950 leaders came over for a vegetarian potluck dinner to honor our special guests. Located 30 minutes south of Eagan in Northfield, St. Olaf College founded its St. Olaf Choir back in 1912. The 100th offering of the St. Olaf Christmas Festival was simulcast on Sunday afternoon at nearly 400 theaters in 45 states while thousands attended the festival on campus. Eagan's Regal 16 Theater welcomed a few hundred Lutherans and others, several wearing Norwegian sweaters. The 2 hour Christmas Festival performed by 5 choirs and full orchestra ended traditionally with "Beautiful Savior."

Our family drove out to Stillwater, a city 35 minutes from Eagan, to cut down a fresh Christmas tree. Eating popcorn and drinking hot apple cider inside the tree payment office afterwards adds to the annual tradition.

Grandpa Ozz and Grandma Lois prepared a Thanksgiving feast for us. The menu included: turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, marshmallow topped squash, cranberry salad, green bean casserole, stuffing, lingonberry sauce, frosted bread and white wine. Pumpkin pie with real whipped cream topped off our Thanksgiving dinner together.

John Tapper's father and a few other men founded Gopher Resource back in 1946. John has worked there since 1979 and now leads the company as their Chief Operating Officer. With 240 employees in Eagan and 200 workers in their Tampa, Florida plant, they are a major recycling organization. In Eagan, they recycle 50,000 car batteries and many other things every day! Irving Kutoff, a 92 year old founder, stopped by as we were talking.

The 6th annual pottery sale took place at the Eagan Art House, home to pottery and other art classes. Ten artists/teachers sold their precious pottery pieces from 10 - 5 pm on Saturday. I'm glad we arrived at 9:45 am even if it meant a "checkbook accident."

On a crisp, sunny, November 15th morning, the opening of the new bridge over Highway 35E began at 8:15 with coffee, doughnuts and fun! Left to right posing on the new Duckwood Drive Overpass bridge: City Administrator Tom Hedges, City Councilman Gary Hansen, Chili, Senator Ted Daley and Parks director Julie Sewell Johnson. Local mascots joined in the fun: Rasmy Moose from Rasmussen College, Chili from Chili's Restaurant and Tireman from Tires Plus. Relay races were run, a shattered champagne bottle christened the bridge and merriment was made by many local politicians, bridge workers, Eagan citizens and city employees.

Mesaba Airlines will permanently close its Eagan headquarters December 26 as decided by owner Memphis-based Pinnacle Airlines. Founded in 1944, Mesaba was the longest-flying regional airline in the United States. Delta Airlines sold it to Pinnacle Airlines last year for $62 million. So now 193 jobs will fly out of our city.
